Hello All.
My name is Scott Stevens and I am a 35 year old carpenter's foreman living in
Eden Prairie Mn.
My lovely wife and friend Susan accompany my walk. We were blessed 2 years ago
with the birth of our daughter Amanda Grace (she is the little sparkle in her
dads eye). We are also eagerly awaiting the birth of our son in January.
After High School I enlisted in the Army. I was stationed at Fort Bragg for
4 year( never left Fort Bragg for 4 YEARS). Upon returning home I worked in
the auto parts business
For a year or so. Then I met Susan. We were married shortly after. Susan had
an entry level position with a health insurance company and I was making a bit
over min wage.
Needless to say, money was tight. My dad then got me into a union apprenticeship
program and Sue's career really took off. We spent the first ten years of marriage
improving our lifestyle. And for what its worth, we did a pretty good job. We
both were bringing home nice paychecks. We got the big house in a rather prestigious
neighborhood, new cars, dining at expensive restaurants, traveling. Then I guess
it dawned on us that we were working for things that didn't really bring us
any sustained happiness. We decided to step back and re-examine our life, values
and faith.
Sue is now working part-time (hopefully she will quit when the next child comes).
We are planning on home-schooling the kids since I don't think we can afford
private education with just my salary.
It amazes me how God works differently in people's life. Some come to him when
they are at their lowest, we did at our highest(or what we thought was our highest).
I think my journey was meant to be a very slow, gradual one. I am still half
the man I want to be but I am also twice the man I was.
I feel very fortunate to have stumbled upon this leagues website. Having a rather
busy life and being a bit of a homebody, the couple of nights a week that I
race are about the only free time I can carve out for myself. Its good to know
that when that time rolls around it will be spent with the friends I have made
at Christian Racing.
